Who is Crystal Cremations?

Crystal Cremations is one of the smaller UK funeral planning companies. Established in 2020, they are based in the Northwest of England and the team has over 30 years’ experience in funeral planning and will writing services.

advertWhat prepaid funeral plans do Crystal Cremations offer?

Crystal Cremations provides a range of prepaid funeral plans throughout mainland UK and funerals for those who have recently died.

Here’s how each option works:

Crystal Cremations for someone who has just died

Prices for arranging a direct cremation for someone who has recently passed away start from £995. The total cost will depend on the services you require. To arrange their services, you call their freephone number and they will talk you through the options.

Crystal Cremations for those looking to plan ahead

There are 3 Crystal Cremation funeral plans to choose from depending on whether you want an attended or unattended cremation:

  • The direct cremation plan
  • The celebration of life plan
  • The traditional plan

Prices range from £1,395 to £3,145 but you can pay more for additional services.

The direct cremation funeral plan – a simple unattended cremation without a funeral service.

It includes collection from a mainland UK hospital, hospice or mortuary within working hours; cremation fees and doctor’s fees if they apply and a coffin.

You can also prepay to have the ashes returned to family but this will cost more.

The celebration of life plan - a simple cremation plan with a service that can be added to, depending on your requirements.

It includes collection from a mainland UK hospital, hospice or mortuary within working hours; cremation fees for a crematorium of your choosing, the service, doctor’s fees if they apply, and a coffin.

With this plan you can also pay extra for live streaming of the service to friends and family, a funeral procession with 4 bearers, limousines and delivery of ashes.

The traditional funeral plan - provides the essential services for a cremation funeral including third party costs.

It includes collection from a mainland UK hospital, hospice or mortuary within working hours; cremation fees for a crematorium of your choosing, the service, doctor’s fees if they apply, a funeral procession and a coffin.

Crystal Cremations funeral plan need to knows

In addition to looking at the advantages of a prepaid funeral, it’s worth reviewing the possible drawbacks too. *Here we list the benefits of a Crystal Cremation funeral plan and important information on the way plans work, to help you consider if it’s the best funeral plan for you.

Benefits of a Crystal Cremations funeral plan

  • 3 plans to choose from
  • Collection from anywhere in mainland UK within working hours
  • Includes doctor’s fee if required
  • Incudes a coffin and eco box or poly urn for ashes to be collected
  • Authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority
  • You can choose the location of the crematorium on 2 of the plans
  • Instalment options between 2 to 8 years with immediate cover

Important to know

  • If you pay over 12 months but die before your premiums have been paid, you will not be covered for the services included in your plan. Instead, the person arranging the funeral can either pay the balance for the funeral services to go ahead, or cancel the plan
  • The instalment option between 2 and 8 years is a credit finance option. The plan will cost more overall as APR is charged at 15.9%
  • You pay extra for collection out of office hours, or from anywhere other than a hospital, hospice or mortuary
  • On all of the plans you pay extra for return of the ashes
  • Doesn’t include additional funeral costs such as flowers, a memorial, orders of service or the wake

*the above information is based on their prepaid plans only

What happens to my money with Crystal Cremations funeral plans?

When you buy a Crystal Cremations funeral plan, your money is held in an independently managed trust fund until it is required to pay for your funeral services.

Crystal Cremations funeral plans are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. In order to become an authorised company, plan providers must meet the FCAs strict rules regarding the way your money is held and the service you receive. Plus, should the need arise, you have further support and protection from the Financial Services Ombudsman and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

advertHow can I pay for a Crystal Cremations funeral plan?

You can pay for a Crystal Cremations funeral plan either in one go or by monthly instalments. Here’s how each payment option works:

Single Payment

You can either pay in one go or spread your costs over 12 months and the price will be the same as you do not incur additional fees.

Monthly Instalments

Monthly instalments between 2 and 8 years are available through a credit financed option. Acceptance will be subject to status and affordability checks but if successful, you will be covered for your services as soon as the plan is in place.

If you were to die during your regulated credit agreement and before your payments are complete, neither Crystal Cremations or Funeral Safe will pursue your estate or whoever took out your finance arrangement for you, for the outstanding balance. Provided that you have kept up with the payments when due, you will be entitled to the agreed funeral services as detailed in the plan.

Am I eligible for a Crystal Cremations funeral plan?

As long as you are 18 or over you can apply for a Crystal Cremations funeral plan.

The only other restriction is with the credit finance option where your acceptance is not guaranteed as it’s subject to your status and personal circumstances.

Can I cancel my plan?

If you pay in one go or over 12 months, you have 30 days in which you can cancel the plan and receive a full refund. After this period, a cancellation fee of £99 applies.

If you pay by the credit finance option and cancel within 24 months, the premiums paid would be fully refunded. After this period, the £99 cancellation fee will apply.

What happens to my funeral plan if I move home?

If you move, just inform Crystal Cremations of your new address. As long as you remain within mainland UK, they can continue to provide your required funeral services.
